The Pirahã tribe in North Western Brazil only has 8 consonants and 3 vowels in its language. The women even use one fewer consonant than the men do. They have no numbers, no fixed color terms, no perfect tense, no deep memory, no tradition of art or drawing, and no words for “all,” “each,” “every,” “most,” or “few”. The tribe has no collective memory that extends back more than one or two generations, and no original creation myths. The world of the tribe is just what they see and just the present. When asked why their language is as it is, they just reply “It has always been this way.”
